Hunter, born and raised in Taos, New Mexico, grew up playing various sports before committing fully to tennis alongside his twin brother, Yates. After honing their skills in high school, Hunter transferred from The University of Louisiana at Lafayette to SMU in Dallas, leading to numerous achievements. He helped SMU reach their first NCAA sweet 16 appearance in 23 years while achieving career-high rankings in doubles and singles.

Graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physiology and Sports Management, Hunter pursued a career in professional tennis, winning multiple titles. In an unexpected turn, he transitioned to professional pickleball, swiftly rising to become the third-ranked singles player globally. With a promising 2023 season ahead, he was drafted by Michelob Ultra's Atlanta Bouncer's and currently ranks first in singles on the APP Tour, while also holding the overall second position among male players.
