THE HYPE / NATN TEAM

Ivy Tschetter

Having picked up a pickleball paddle just three years ago, I quickly became addicted to the game and haven't looked back since. In an interesting turn of events, I found myself competing in my first tournament at the start of 2020, where I played in the women's pro division alongside my mother. It was at that moment that I realized my true passion for the sport and decided to pursue a career as a professional player.

  • I am 17 years old. I have 5 siblings and I have been homeschooled my entire life. I grew up in a Christian home with both parents present. They have pushed me and supported me to be where I am now and I am so thankful for them.

I started playing pickleball 3 years ago and haven’t put down my paddle since. Fun fact: the first tourney I ever played was right in the beginning of 2020 and I played womens pro with my mom. I decided there that I wanted to be a professional player. I didn’t really understand how much work it was gonna take and then covid hit. With everything being shut down, playing was almost impossible. (I live in Minnesota and we have snow pretty much half the year.) I jumped on the courts once spring came but still didn’t understand how much time I needed to dedicate.

For the next >2 years I continued to play a tournament every couple months and continued to do well. But I still didn’t have the determination needed to move to pro. Then in November 2021 I played in the first ever Next Gen. I also played with Rob Cassidy in mixed pro at the ppa national indoor championships in February 2022.

Still not realizing that I needed to be training ALL THE TIME in order to achieve my goal, I found theatre. I have always loved singing and thought why not act too? I loved it but it was at the cost of training. I don’t regret it but I definitely wish I could have planned my time a little better in order to fit pickleball in. I think at one point I hadn’t played in 8 weeks! I am still currently doing theatre and have lead roles in two musicals right now! Thankfully the rehearsal schedule is much less demanding this time!

Then this semester I started taking college classes thru our states program called PSEO ( I also did spring 2022). I took up a ceramics class which was fun but very time consuming and again, ate up my time to play pickleball. Since I technically would be done with school this semester, I decided that once I was done with it all, I would train all the time. Because I finally realized how much time I should be training. After 3 years. It really took a while.

I drill with my mom mostly since she’s always available. Fun fact #2: we also used to play tourneys together. I also train with a good friend, David, who gets up to play at 5 AM with me! Thankful for the people who believe in my dream and want to help me get there!

I also am a Christian first and foremost. As Christians, we are called to share the good news with everyone. That is our job while we are here on earth. I hope to be able to use my platform to do that. All in all, I am excited to truly break onto the pro scene in 2023!
